Many thanks for your letter, as well as the kind interest you have taken in the matter of my leave.
I have just written to the Governor and thanked him also for his great kindness. I fear, however, that I must not entertain great hopes of being able to avail myself of it. My savings have been small, and the New Marriage Ordinance has so reduced the amount of my fees - to about one half - I fear I shall not be able to get home without allowances.
